Since its inception in 2001, the Design Foundation, IDSA’s 501(c)(3) charitable arm, has predominantly carried out its mission of supporting design education by providing academic scholarships to high-achieving ID students. But, with your help the Foundation can be much more than a “scholarship fund!” New leadership and renewed energy present the perfect opportunity to move in a new direction.
Each fall the Design Foundation holds an annual fundraising campaign. By mid-November, all IDSA members will receive a call to action. As members of IDSA and members of the ID community, we ask that you fund the Design Foundation’s new direction to fully leverage its ability to support design education initiatives like those spearheaded by IDSA.
With limited funding, IDSA was able to further design education in 2014:
- Outstanding International Conference – The Exchange brought both dynamic speakers and peer-to-peer learning through the exchange pod experience.
- Inaugural Education Paper Executive Summary – This publication of Education Symposium papers enhances design educators’ ability to share their findings with the greater design community.
- Design Success Webinar Series – This professional development program hosted seven engaging webinars on topics that included crowdfunding, innovation and entrepreneurship.
- INNOVATION Focus on Education – For the first time since 2005, the magazine, which reaches over 12,000 readers, will dedicate an issue (Winter 2014) to the area of design education and will be guest edited by Lorraine Justice, PhD, FIDSA, dean of the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology and the Design Foundation President.
Just think of the additional flexibility IDSA would have to help you in 2015 and beyond through Design Foundation funding.
As IDSA turns 50 next year, we invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone. Contribute to the Design Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign electronically today. In doing so, you will help the current, but especially a new generation of designers, to create, innovate and change the world in wonderfully positive and compelling ways.
