Founder and Creative Director
Pip Tompkin is the founder and creative director of Pip Tompkin Studio, a highly successful design Studio based in Los Angeles, California. The company is known for its Big Think and Big Idea methodology which has helped companies from all over the world develop unique, extraordinary highly successful products, product strategies, UX solutions and brands.
Pip Tompkin was born in Nottingham, England. He graduated top of his year with 1st class honors majoring in Industrial Design from Northumbria University in Newcastle. He then attended The Royal College of Art in London and gained a Masters of Industrial Design with a special examiners distinction. After graduating, he worked with both architecture, furniture and Industrial Design companies all over the world. In 2001 Pip moving to the United States to work with the consultancy Design Edge in Austin Texas. While with Design Edge, Pip helped Dell develop industry leading products in the areas of gaming, education, consumer and enterprise markets. In 2005, he relocated to Los Angeles, accepting a senior position at Nokia with a focus on developing smart devices for North American, European and Asian markets. During Pip’s three years at Nokia, his designs and thinking around smart devices significantly increase sales of key products by millions. Pip also served on a board in Helsinki to create and align design strategies for Nokia’s Global portfolio.
In December of 2008 Pip left Nokia to form Pip Tompkin Studio. Pip Tompkin’s philosophy, Assume Nothing together with his Big Think Big idea methodology, has helped develop award winning innovative products and brands for numerous businesses; start-up and large organizations around the world including; Microsoft, HTC, Nokia, Dell, iRobot, Vizio, Toshiba and Polycom to name a few. He actively promotes design education and his work has appeared in many publications.
